SharePoint Conference 2018 Highlights

 In News, SharePoint

SharePoint Conference North America 2018 was an event not to be missed — centered around having face to face interactions Microsoft team members and the extended SharePoint community. Hosted at the MGM Grand Hotel Conference Center from May 20-23, 2018, the gathering included a killer keynote from Jeff Teper, the godfather of Microsoft SharePoint, informative training seminars, an energetic exhibition hall, and even a poolside performance by the legendary B52s rock band.

Here are a few highlights from the event:

Microsoft is adding mixed-reality and artificial-intelligence capabilities to SharePoint! SharePoint Spaces is coming to Office 365 business users. Imagine augmented reality scenarios such as recruiting, partner onboarding, product development scrums, or even learning events.

Enhancements to SharePoint Communication sites and Hub sites, including better integration of SharePoint document libraries and planner into Teams.

Advanced features have been added to SharePoint Lists, cognitive analysis has been enhanced, plus actionable insights and charts can be utilized via PowerBI. Additionally, Microsoft added functionality improvements to Flow, Visio and Microsoft Forms.

Perhaps the biggest buzz came directly from event participants roaming the exhibit hall. Many system admins, SharePoint and developers and consultants were talking Microsoft dedication to making Office 365 a powerful platform for seamless communication, interaction and collaboration.

Participants also had a lot to say about the products and services being demonstrated by exhibitors like Dropsuite. For the most part, lots of knowledge was shared between vendors and buyers. At times, Dropsuite’s booth was brimming with onlookers hoping to catch a glimpse of our latest release of Unlimited Cloud Backup for Office 365.

Udit Berlia, Dropsuite’s Director of Account Management, was on hand to personally demonstrate the powerful backup and archiving features available for Exchange, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams. We heard plenty of oohs and aahs when Udit showcased Dropsuite’s universal search tool, a type of federated cross-product search that allows administrators to access a lightning fast, multi-dimensional search feature that automatically dives into all the Microsoft Office 365 apps to deliver all results on a single results page.

Other notable product features that seemed to win over the attendees were:

  • Journaling based archiving (a much-praised feature for regulatory compliance)
  • Unlimited storage & retention (unlike standard storage limits/hidden costs)
  • Our single pane of glass management console (convenience!)
  • What a great value for the money our product was (so much included in one low price)

After a four year hiatus, SharePoint Conference North America could be easily called the comeback show of the year. Great speakers, informative sessions, helpful exhibitors, and of course, dedicated and enthusiastic SharePoint users who came, saw and conquered. See everyone again next year.
